Cotton Market Mixed on Monday

The old to new crop inverse tightened on Monday, as July cotton futures closed 11 points weaker to new crops 45 to 68 point gains. December closed 97 points under July. 

USDA’s weekly Crop Progress report showed cotton farmers planting progressed 13 percentage points over the week to 38% finished as of the 16th. The average is to be 40% planted by this time. Fields in TX are 50% planted, compared to the 41% average. 

USDA’s Daily Spot Quotations report reported no cash sales in the 5/17 update. The 5/14 Cotlook A index was 90.15 cents/lb, which is back down by 325 points. The AWP for cotton is 72.91 cents/lb through Thursday.  

Jul 21 Cotton  closed at 82.32, down 11 points,

Dec 21 Cotton  closed at 81.71, up 49 points,

Mar 22 Cotton  closed at 81.35, up 45 points
